Or, why Fedora may not always have the exact latest version.
The upstream Calc project uses a
somewhat unusual scheme for "stable" and "unstable" releases that is
independent from the x.y.z.p
numbering scheme.
The version number scheme is basically as expected; the more-significant
places are incremented on bigger changes. But, at any given time, any
version can be declared either stable or unstable, depending on how much
testing the authors feel that particular release has gotten. The only way to
tell is to look at the #.#.#.#_IS_LATEST_STABLE
or
#.#.#.#_IS_LATEST_UNSTABLE
files in the archive at
http://isthe.com/chongo/src/calc/.
In general, I try to skip the unstable releases entirely, but occasionally will update to one of them in Rawhide if the change looks small and the release based on that Rawhide is a long way off.
In the future, I may make "stable" and "unstable" branches available, following the upstream guidance.
