try out some tests
    
    This doesn't work yet.  Upstream is in the habit of declaring explicit
    requires for the latest version available in pip for everything it uses,
    and since we diverge from that, I want to use the test suite.  I've been
    iteratively adding BuildRequires, and it's looking like the tests are
    comprehensive enough that we can probably declare every Require as a
    BuildRequire as well, but it's been enough of a time sink today that
    I'll have to revisit again later.
