Bring sparse up to the state of upstream git tree
    
    sparse hasn't seen a release in a couple of years now, so let's start
    just doing regular diffs from the last release and applying the
    whole pile.
    
    In this case, we're basing it on Chris Li's master branch to pick
    up an extra patch that I expect will make it in sooner rather
    than later.
